How do I choose which food is best for my pet?

 
With so many different kinds of foods for your pet to choose from, how do you decide which food is the best for your pet?  There are many fads, websites, attractive commercials, and even great salesmen telling us all sorts of things about pet foods and what they think is best.  Well, to help you sort through all of the information, there are a few key points that we will teach you to direct you in the path to an educated decision.  There are a few key points to know when choosing the best food for you pet.


A.     Who is the food made for?

B.     How is the food evaluated?

C.     Will the food provide enough, or even too much, nutrients for my pet?

These questions can be answered by reading the AAFCO statements on the pet food bag.


Other questions to consider are:

A.     What is the animal's flavor preferences?
B.     Does the food company have any nutritionists on staff?
C.     Has the company been in business with a good reputation for a long period of time?
D.     Does the food company make absurd statements/claims?
E.     Does the food company have a phone number for notification of potential problems?
F.     Does the food company conduct research to further their knowledge of nutrition relative to the health of our pets?
 

After starting your pet on a carefully selected food, be sure to observe that you pet is:

A.     producing nice stools
B.     maintaining a nice haircoat
C.     maintain good body weight
