Vaccine Series for Puppies and Kittens
Every puppy and kitten is evaluated individually for their specific needs of vaccinations.  Every puppy and kitten is different and does not fit into an exact formula for all.  However, every puppy and kitten needs, at a minimum, certain vaccines through the age of 16 weeks.  Please bring all records to you new puppy or kitten's first doctor's visit.

Heartworm and Intestinal Parasite Preventatives, Flea and Tick Preventatives
Heartworm and intestinal parasite preventatives are essential for all dogs AND cats, every month, year round in Florida.  It is also important for pets that only live indoors because certain disease-carrying mosquitoes preffer to live indoors also.

Flea and tick preventatives are also hightly recommended for monthly use.  It is easier to prevent a problem than to fix it later.  There are many options for preventatives, consult with our office for advise on which to choose.

Microchipping
Microchipping provides a permanent identification for pets.  In the case of your pet escaping or getting shuffled around in a hurricane evacuation, your pet will forever be linked to you.

Dental (Porphyromonas) Vaccine - DOGS ONLY
This vaccine is designed to prevent the growth of common oral bacterial pathogens to prevent bone loss and eventual tooth loss.  We recommend starting this vaccine as puppies.

Spay and Neutering
Spaying and neutering in cats and dogs is recommended at about six months of age.  Spaying and neutering reduces the risk of cancers later in life, helps prevent unwanted behaviors, and prevents unwanted reproduction.

Retained Deciduous Teeth
Any deciduous teeth that were not naturally lost should be extracted as soon as possible, usually during the time of spaying or neutering.  This is a common problem in smaller breed dogs and does not usually cause long-lasting effects if handled promptly.  If the extra teeth are left in place, premature periodontitis sets in and also the adult teeth are displaced.
