BOARDING POLICY
 
We wish to thank you for allowing us the opportunity to board you pet here at Sarasota Animal Hospital. We have se up guidelines to ensure that you pet will receive the best care while staying with us, and to clear up any question you may have as a concerned pet owner.

1.       All pets admitted to the hospital for boarding must be current on all vaccinations. Dogs: rabies, distemper, parvo, lepto, bordetella. Cats: rabies and distemper. Any patients that require a vaccination will be examined by the attending veterinarian and will be charged an examination fee, plus the cost of the vaccines.
2.       All pets admitted to the hospital for boarding must be free of all external parasites. Our staff will check you pet immediately upon admission and any pets found to have fleas will be bathed and a flea treatment applied at the owner’s expense. We welcome you to assist us in examining your pet before admission.
3.       All new patients must be examined by the doctor on duty before being boarded. The normal office visit/exam fee will be charged. This is to ensure your pet is healthy, and it also gives our doctors a baseline to work from should your pet become ill while boarding.
4.       We will be pleased to administer and medications your pet may need to take while staying with us, including heartworm preventative. A fee of $1-$2.00 per day will be charged for prescription medication administration. (Average is $1.75/day)
5.       We would like an approximate pick-up to be made when you drop your pet off. No pet will be discharged before 10:00 a.m., unless prior arrangements have been made. This will allow us time to properly examine you pet and make sure everything is in order. If your vacation is cut short and you wish to pick up your pet early, please give us a call at least 1 to 2 hours before coming so that we can get him or her ready for discharge.
6.       If someone other than you or a member of your family will be picking up your pet, please let our receptionist know ahead of time. Prior arrangements for payment must be made in these cases.
7.       A full day’s board will be charged according to the number of nights you pet stays with us. There will be no charge on the day you pick your pet up, if he or she is discharged before 1:00 p.m. Discharges after 1:00 p.m. will be charged a half-day’s boarding.
8.       All boarding fees must be taken care of at the time of discharge.
9.       Your pet will be given the best medial care available should he or she become ill while staying here. Charges will depend on the severity of the illness. Every attempt will be made to contact you if your pet becomes seriously ill. Please leave a number where you can be reached in case of an emergency. In the event this is not possible, please provide the name and phone number of a person who will know you itinerary, be able to reach you, or will be able to make decisions regarding the care of your pets in your absence.
10.   All pets will be sent home clean. If your pet requires a bath, one will be given the day of discharge for a discounted fee.
11.   The staff at Sarasota Animal Hospital would like to bring to your attention the fact that we have increased the amount of household items we have on hand for your pet. As we board our own pets at Sarasota Animal Hospital, we know personal items can ease our minds that they are comfortable during their stay. We have rugs, blankets, sheets, sweatshirts, and towels. We cannot be responsible for lost or damaged items. We respectfully request that unless it is absolutely necessary, please allow us to supply these items for you. If you must bring your own items, they must be reasonably sized (able to fit into a standard washer and dryer – no comforters), clean, flea-free, labeled with your pet’s first & last name, and safe for you pet. If belongings come to us dirty and must be washed before being given to your pet, there is a $2.50 charge for this service. We hope you will understand the reasons for these policy and we ask for your cooperation.
